"The River That Binds Us" Senior Thesis 2021
This dance film emcompasses an exploration involving research into various forms of art that use symbolisms of water to depict the relationship between one's self and others. Throughout this film, 11 dancers are seen as they navigate space in relation to themselves and each other that is influenced by the cyclical patterns of existing bodies and states of water. Each performer takes on the role of an individual molecule contributing to a larger community. The unit(s) formed are constantly shifting while each performer is on a trajectory in the space to resemble either the path of an intersecting river, a serene pond, the violent currents of an ocean, etc. The dichotomy within the unified and disunited dynamic serves to encapsulate humanistic relationships. Symbolisms of existing forms of water help us to further understand and communicate our experiences as we continue to travel on the malleable path of our own.
